We did not fish today due to weather, the one man tournament was rescheduled for Sept. 13th.

Monday, Sept. 5, 2011

Weekend round up I was doing doubles the last few days and did not have time to get to my computer. Most have continued to fish inside for mature kings. The fishing has been very good, with Spin doctors and flies and Flashers with meat as the primary baits. Depending on the days and water conditions the fish have been as shallow as 50 fow and as deep as 120 fow.

And for those that did not know Sunrise II had an officially weighed Salmon on Saturday of 41 lbs and 15 onces, unfortunately his guys were not in the LOC derby. As far as we know the only over forty pounders caught this year were both at the Oak and neither group was registered in the derby in progress at that time costly mistakes.

Results of the Johnny V Tournament

First Warf Rat 107.14

Second Yankee Troller 103.6

Third Snow Pirate 93.14

Fourth Maverick 87.8

Fifth Sunrise II 86.47

Big fish Yankee Yroller 33.22 lbs

Well the day after the big blow and to our surprise it did nothing to change the lake. In 70 fow it was 46 degrees down 60 ft and 71 on the top. At the 28 line it was 73 on the top and 48 down 85. There were fish caught from 65 fow to the 28 line. Hot baits were DW Glow nosed melons, Orange crushes, silver oranges, Mag Silver green glows and Stinger Stingray Mag ghosts. Riggers from 35-55 in shallow and 55-85 out deep. Divers worked at 200-220 with little dogs and 72monties. The mature Salmon have been moving in all day and if things don't change I would expect it to get even better tomorrow.

Sunday, August 28, 2011

Monday will be a very interesting day. The waves were coming over the wall like It was just a small rock in the way it was mother nature giving us a show. I am sure we will find fish today but were is anyones guess. Let you know tomorrow.

Friday, August 26, 2011

From Capt. Bob Eder of "Shotgun". Fished 29.5-30.5 n x 14-16 w today, 42nd Spin Doctor & fly at 181 on the wire, smooth pirate 55 Udder spoon at 191 on the other wire. Moon shine Carbon 14, NK28 frog and black and silver raspberry glow pirate 55. Riggers at 51', 61' were the best. We caught Steelhead and Kings mixed.

Thursday, August 25, 2011

Sorry due to the storms I had no computer to write my report before I left in the morning. We had a very good inside king and brown bite early with cold water down 85 feet over 100 but that all disappeared late morning with the NW wind. It is now 74 degrees down 130 feet and the salmon have moved. Very little info about the off shore bite since most fished inside. I have little confidence to fish inside Friday and I do believe due to the conditions most of the captains will fish mid-waters to off shore.

Tuesday, August 23, 2011

Even though warm water moved in their was still a Salmon and brown bite in the inside waters for some, but most moved off to the 25-27 lines as the day moved on. Fish were coming 75-110 down on the riggers and divers out 240-330. The hottest spoons were DW and Stingray ghosts both regulars and mags both silver and gold. Hot spinners were small dogs, Spin doctor green nukes with Atommik green hammers, white on whites with pro/am flies.

Monday, August 22, 2011

Sorry, I was unable to get to a computer the last few days. Things change fast the water got cooler inside and the kings made an appearance in 100-130 fow range from the point to the glass house. Most of our winners from the Saturday tournament were lucky enough to check this water out and found the kings ready and willing to bite; they also were there on Sunday. There still is an off-shore bite and although kings were hard to come by on Saturday in this water they were very plentiful come Sunday. The best spots off-shore were from 29-31 north and 10-16 west. With the hard NW blow today it will be interesting to see what Tuesday brings.

Saturdays Results

1st Yankee Pride

2nd Maverick

3rd Free Spirit

4th Hot Line

5th Yankee Troller

6th Hideout

Friday, August 19, 2011

29-31 by 10-20 continues to be the place to be. Kings and Steelhead just like August should be. Riggers from 50-90 divers from 160 to 240, 400-500 coppers. DW black magic, gold 42's and Stingray ghosts on the riggers early, DW glow nose melons and green nukes later. Spinners were Monties, 42/42 golds and green nukes on the divers with big dogs on the coppers.

Thurdays, August 18, 2011

The off-shore bite continues to be good but it did move in a little yesterday to 29-32. Most of the same baits from yesterday were still working.

Wensday, August 17, 2011

The off-shore bite is the main game in town. Even though a few did find the mid water to be productive. There were some kings and steelhead taken on 26-27 lines the best being meat on 500 coppers but the most consistent bite was 32-34. Riggers 40-70 with DW Glow nose melons, Green and yellow gators along with Tommy Tapes and Stinger Stingray Green Nukes. Divers on #3 out 125 with Silver 42/42's and mono Slide divers Back 20 out 120 on #2 with DW Hologram green Dolphins.

First remember we do have tournment coming up this Saturday.

Saturday August 20th will be the date. You must be entered by 7am Saturday morning. Entry fee is $100 cash ONLY and entries will be accepted at Lake Breeze Marina, 4 C's Marina, Narbys and Captains Cove.

You may fish this tournament OUT OF ANY PORT ON THE LAKE. The only requirement is that you enter at one of the 4 locations listed above and you present your 3 fish for weigh in at 4C's Marina between 2 and 4 PM on Saturday. The weigh in closes at 4 PM SHARP.....NO EXCEPTIONS!

And remember you can only bring 3 fish to the weigh-in:

This will be a 100 percent payback tournament paying 25 percent of the field.

Now for today; Scattered mid water picture and action with a few fish caught but the offshore bite seemed to be the ticket. But it was way off shore 36-37 and it was a steelhead bite. Riggers were working from 40-75 down with Kevorkian's, Yellow gators and metallic frogs. 10 color lead cores with DW metallic frogs and gold melons. Mono Slide Divers with DW hologram dolphins 30 by 120 and 140 wire divers with 42/42's.

Sunday, August 14, 2011

It was a very interesting day, with the treat of thunders storms midday most were a little cautious on where they fished. But a few made big moves that payed off. Capt. Tom Hynes of Wharf Rat charters and Butch Cooley of Pisces head north tom the 35 line and filed their coolers early with kings and steelhead. The rest fished from 24-27 and 11-17 with some good mature kings steelhead and even a few browns. Riggers were working from 60-90 down and divers 200-240 400 and 500 coppers. Hot rigger baits Gold 42, Gold ghosts and NBK's, divers were Gold 42/42's, White on white purple mirage and Twinkie greens. Meat behind white flashers on the 500's and 400's were a hot ticket for big kings the last few days.

Saturday, August 13, 2011

Sorry I was unable to post a report yesterday but I had a double and was unable to get to a computer. The best the last 2 days has been from the 27-29, from 14-9. The bite has been a little deeper due to the NW winds the two previous days. Temp has been down 95-100 at the 27 but does come up as you move north. Today Tracker had a good bite high 75-50 on the riggers with DW purple nukes, Gold 42's and Kevorkian's but his divers were not working. Irish Thunder had a good diver and copper bite divers 220-240 and 400 coppers but his riggers were not working. Hot diver baits Silver 42/42's and yellow gators with TG hammers. Looks like we may be in for some rain the next few days but the winds are supposed to be lite.

Thursday, August 11, 2011

Wind, wind and more wind the last 2 days have been horrendous, only a few boats even attempted to go out today and they turned around at the break wall. One did try to go out but when his client hit his head on the hard top that ended the trip. The one thing I do know is that one captain did go out latter in the day and checked temp and with 120 foot of cable out it was still 71 degrees at the probe; looks like off shore will be the ticket when it calms down

Monday, August 8, 2011

The warm water came rushing back in and provided for some great early morning kings in 120-130 fow but the bite turned to all skippers by 7:30. If you were on them early you got them, when it was over it was time to move. The the next hot bite was 34.5 north from 10-4 west. There were all classes of kings with big steelhead. The bite there came from 45-70 on the riggers, divers out 200-220 and 400 coppers. Hot spoons early were gold 42's and Ghosts, Yellow gators later. Divers with Gold 42/42's and Death Wishes with Atommik Stevens flies. Our old stand by Big Dogs continue to do damage on the 400 coppers.

Sunday, August 7, 2011

The lake was still cold in shore and most fished 29 or deeper where the water was more stable. But the talk of the day was of the 41lb 12 once Salmon caught by Capt. Paul Czarnecki of "Free Spirit";(that was the weight on a registered scale at Captains Cove). The fish was caught on a DW Green eyed ghost. We expected this to happen with the reports of a number of mid 30's fish caught earlier in the year. The unfortunate thing about this is that his clients were not registered in the Orleans County Derby. Don't let this happen to you, when can get a one day reduced price entry to the derby and have a chance of catching a winning big fish. I do have a photo of this fish and will try to get it posted soon.

Saturday, August 6, 2011

The lake has done a hard flip with cold clear water on the beach. Most ran at least to the 27 line and fished north. A few were lucky and landed on and got a few kings early but most had to hunt for them to find a few. So it was mostly a steelhead bite for everyone. Because of the high cold temps spoon s were the primary bait of the day. Riggers 35-55, Mono slid divers 100-120 30 back. Hot baits were DW gold 42's, half and half's and yellow gators along with Stinger ghosts.

Now the winners of yesterdays Drew,s Crew event

First: Buc-a-roo

Second: Sunrise II

Third: Screamin Reels

The crew of the event would like to thank everyone who participated in making it a success again this year

Thursday, August 4, 2011

The east wind blew in cold water on the inside. In front of the wall did hold some nice kings in 50-60 fow for a little while but that ended by 9:00am. The best spot after that was the 27 line from 11-15. Down riggers from 40-60 and divers at 120 and 140. 10 color lead cores were were also doing well. Hot baits on the riggers were DW yellow gators in Mag and regular size. Divers were working with 42/42 spin doctors. Just to let everyone know, the charity tournament on Saturday is open to all ports but you must weigh in at Lake Breeze Marina in Point Breeze. They have also changed the weigh in time on the event on the 20th to 2-4PM at 4c's Marine.

Tuesday, August 2, 2011

I hate to sound like a broken record so I will just say this; the fishing today was as good as yesterday so you should have been here both days and the report is the same. We are getting some big kings and it looks like its getting better as we move in to August. So I would like to announce the next up coming tournament.

The only requirement is that you enter at one of the 4 locations listed above and you present your 3 fish for weigh in at 4C's Marina between 1 and 3 PM on Saturday. The weigh in closes at 3 PM SHARP.....NO EXCEPTIONS!

And remember you can only bring 3 fish to the weigh-in:

This will be a 100 percent payback tournament paying 25 percent of the field.

Monday, August 1, 2011

The inside water has produced a few matures the last few days but it is a very short bite that has been over by 8:00am. The more consistent bite has been the mid waters from 25-27 from 10-15. Riggers from 45-80 with DW gold 42's, Half and half's and Stinger Ghosts in both Mags and Stingrays early and DW Yellow gators later in the day. Divers with Silver 42/42's Spin doctors and green nukes with Atommik Green hammers at 180 and 200. Also the stand by Big Dogs on the 400 copper keep on producing day in and day out.

Short Report today same as yestreday.

Friday, July 29, 2011

There was a small pocket of cold water holding fish in 70-90 east of the wall in front of the ladders which yielded Kings and Browns but who knows if it will hold. Most fished from from 29-31, strait out front. Mature and immature kings along with steelhead was the fair of the day there. Hot baits early were DW gold 42's and Stinger ghosts from 55-75 and DW Yellow gators late. Spin doctor Death Whish with Atommik Steven's flies on divers out 160-180, along with small dogs and gold 42/42's

Wednesday, July 27, 2011

From Capt. Joe Tommey on Irish Thunder. They took a 33.6 salmon 80 down over 600 on a Stinger Stingray Ghost today the happy Father and son team was Vince and Ray Stempel. It is great when a father and son can share such and experience. They fished 31 north by 18 west. Capt. Paul of Free Spirit had a good day also he fished 24-26 north by 12 west and had a mixed bag of Kings Steelhead and laker's. Hot baits were DW Yellow Gators and Stinger Stingray Ghost 50-90 on the riggers, along with 300 and 400 coppers with Small dogs (Spin doctor White on white with black dots and purple mirage flies behind them.

Tuesday, July 26, 2011

Capt. Tom Hynes reported from Wharfrat. 31 north by 10 west was the place for him mostly kings with 4 over 20. Divers were hot with Spin doctor NBK's and Atommik 42 flies at 200. DW Trannies along with streak Black Magics from 50-90 on the riggers.

Sunday, July 24, 2011

Very few boats out today mostly Captains with larger boats. The wind was blowing NE 15-20 and the waves were 4-6 with some 8's but those that did make it out had good days. There were fish from 100-150 hot baits were DW Yellow Gators and Stinger Ghosts down 50-80 early and 30-50 late as the temp kept coming up with the NE wind. No diver reports but big and little dogs were working on 400 coppers early and 300's late.

Todays spotlight Captains are Capt. Paul from Free Spirit and Capt. CJ from Rally Killer. Capt. Paul had Kings, Steelhead, Browns and Coho's form 140 to 180 a little west. All of his action came on the riggers today from 50-70 down. DW feelin Erie's, Carmel Dolphins and Stinger Stingray Ghosts. The best setup was 20 back off the riggers. Captain CJ had his Yeck Watermelons and Gators working from 45-80 down over 100-200 fow.

Thursday, July 21, 2011

Stiff SW wind had things scattered today though the water was still cold 44 degrees down 45 feet. Screening Reels and Valley of the Shadow had browns going in tight on DW SS Mixed Veggie. Tracker and Free Spirit worked 80-120 for some kings and Steelhead but here was a lot of Skippie's to contend with in that area. The Pirate Boats worked the 25 line where the found a decent down break and a mixed bag of fish. Reel Excitement worked out to the 28 line and caught mostly steelhead. Hot lures DW yellow gators, Stinger Nukes, Spin doctor green nukes with Atommik Green hammers and Spindoctor yellow gators with TG Hammers.

EXTRA

I have distributed to Captain’s Cove, Narby’s, Lake Breeze Marina and Four C’s Marina packages that contain postcards that can be sent to the appropriate elected officials to gain their support in the growing effort to stop the possible spread of Asian Carp into the Great Lakes System. Please consider taking some on your boat during your charters to see if your customers would be interested in signing and mailing them. Each and every person is important in this effort.

Interesting day today, forecast light winds less than 10 mph waves 1 foot or less. Reality NE 15MPH was 2-4. thats why they call it Pt. Breeze. Fishing though was good, we fished 80-90 the point to the Glass house. Good class of Kings, Steehead and Browns. Early the hot bait was all Stinger Stingray ghosts, riggers 30-50 divers 100 and 110. When it got cloudy it went to DW halve and halves, gold 42 seconds in the same range on the riggers and Green Gators with Atommik Gator flies, (live 202, green crinkles)and silver 42/42's out 140-160 on the divers. When the sun came back out, it was DW yellow gators on all riggers.

Sunday, July 17, 2011

It was a great weekend you should have been hear. I do not know what to add to the reports from the last few days. The lake was perfect, the fishing was great, the weather was fantastic, and there were no bugs. Oh yes and the fishing was as good as it gets. Check out the reports for the last few days because It was the same today.

Saturday, July 16, 2011

I do not know what else to say fishing is as good as it gets, anywhere from 80-300 fow, west to Johnson's east to the glass house. Hot spoons DW yellow gators, green gators, Stinger Stingray ghosts, from 40-70 down on the riggers. Big Dog spin doctors with Atommik Purple Mirages on the 400 coppers, Regular dogs with the same fly on 180 divers, Spin doctor Green Nukes with Atommik Green Hammers on 200 divers, Twinkie green revelators with Atommik 42 second shredded flies on 160 divers. Great mixed bag catches with a large number of mature kings caught every day.

Friday, July 15, 2011

Fishing can be everything you want it to be and right now "at the Oak" it is. The water inside is set up almost perfect with Mature Kings, Big browns and some lake trout mixed in. But you must be patient with the full moon the bite starts slow and the biggest kings turn on late in the day. Hot spoons today were stinger Mag and stingray ghosts and DW Yellow gators, down 50-70. Spinners were Revelator twinkie greens, Spin doctor, white nukes with purple mirages, yellow gators with TG Hammers on divers 180-220, 400 coppers with big dogs with purple mirages. For a faster bite of Steelhead, coho's and kings the ticket is west 13-15 and north 25-27. Any numbers of green spoons on the riggers 60-80 down and divers 180-220 with the same baits as inside.

Wednesday, July 13, 2011

Captain Mick of Get Hooked fished from to 25-26 line out front and had spooks both silver and gold on his divers and riggers. Capt Bob Stevens Fished 100 fow and with Stingray Nukes on his riggers and revelator twinkie greens and cows on his divers. Both had a good days on kings and steelhead.

Tuesday, July 12, 2011

The west/north west winds brought in warm water but did little to slow the fishing. Tracker had a banner day on browns east to the flats in 65/70 fow, Reel Excitement and Sunrise II fished from the 11-8 lines in 110 to 130 fow and filled their boxes with King's, coho's and steelhead and the Pirate boats continued to land them between 25-26 lines from the point to Johnson's creek. Hot baits, DW Green Gators along with Stingray Nukes from 70-80 down on the riggers along with small dog spin doctors with Atommik purple mirage flies and Pro-troll & Spin doctor green nukes with Atommik TG/hammers on the deep riggers at 90 and 95. Baby Blue(Spin doctor Chrome Blue Holo/Crush Glows with Atommik UV dolphins), Spin doctor Twinkie greens with Atommik green pearls and Spin doctor White Nukes with Atommik purple mirage flies on the divers out 240-260. 400 Coppers were also firing with Big Dogs with Atommik purple mirage flies.

Monday, July 11, 2011

Hot spots have been out front and a little east in 120-200 good mix of King's, Coho's and Steelhead, also 25-26 north and west at the 13 line. Hot baits, DW metallic frogs, Green Gators and yellow gators from 40-60 down on the riggers. Baby Blue (Spin doctor Chrome Blue Holo/Crush Glows with Atommik UV dolphins), Pro-troll, Spin doctor green nukes with Atommik TG/hammers behind it along with Twinkie green and Green gators with Atommik Gator flies (Crinkle green lives). these are working well on divers from 120-180.

Saturday, July 9, 2011

The fishing continues to be very good and todays report would mirror yesterdays. So I am going to pass on some info as to an event that will be taking place every Wednesday for the rest of the season. It is the Wednesday night salmon league a brain child of Capt. Mark Lewis of Devonian. He will be fishing every Wednesday afternoon/evening with friends on his boat and is inviting everyone who can to join him in the fun on their boat. He can be reached on Chanel 16 those nights and would like to share info on fishing tactics and successes with everyone who would care to participate. Sounds like a great way to make new fishing friends and learn some new techniques to enjoy our great LO fishery.

Friday, July 8, 2011

The east wind blew in some cold water under 100 but the fish did not go very far. The hot area was 150-200 out in front and east. Today's report comes from Intimidator Charters Capt. Mike Lavender, riggers down 75 and 85 Divers out 160-180; with twinkie greens both Revelators and Spin doctors along with white on white spin doctors with Atommik purple mirages. Other hot baits today include; big dogs on 400 coppers and white nukes both with Atommik purple mirages. It is now typical July Salmon fishing, 80-90 FOW east to the glass house west to Johnson's. Do not pay attention to the water temp fish what you see. There is allot of bait and the fish are on it, we caught fish in 64 degrees and 41 degrees, temp is all over the place but they do not care. Riggers from 55-80 down divers 140-160 early and 200-220 late. Hot baits today turned to metallic frogs for spoons, spinners were, White Nukes with Atommik purple mirages, also big dogs on the 400 coppers with purple mirages, and regular dogs on the riggers. Gold 42/42's fired all day on the divers. The best divers setups contiune to be black slide divers with the big ring, with the spinners back 20 feet.

Friday, July 1, 2011

Only a couple charters out today and a lot of Rec boats. The majority of the boats out today were again from 26-28 line in front of the harbor, west and east, the current break from yesterday was still there. Fishing remained good with the same mix of Kings of all year classes, Steehead and Coho's. Riggers were still working from 60 to 90, divers 200-260 and 500 coppers knot at the water. Hot baits remained DW Hologram Dolphins and DW Hologram NBK's. Hot spinners; Spin doctor Chrome/Mtn Dew Mtn Dews with Atommik Green pearls, White Nukes with Atommik purple mirages, also big dogs on the coppers with purple mirages (Big dogs are Spin Doctor 10 inch white on whites with the black dots). Also something I forgot to mention yesterday the best divers setups were black slide divers with the big ring and the spinners back 20 feet.

Thursday, June 30, 2011

A number of boats out today only a few giving up any info. First the best was about the 26 line from in front of the harbor west to the 16 line where a current break had set up that you could easily see on the water. The best fishing was on the north side of it where you could see the fish stacked up anywhere from 50 to 90 down. It was good mix of Kings of all year classes, Steehead and Coho's. Riggers were working from 60 to 90, divers 200-260 and 500 coppers knot at the water. Hot baits DW Hologram Dolphins and DW Hologram NBK's along with Yeck Obama Mags. Hot spinners; Spin doctor Chrome/Mtn Dew Mtn Dews with Atommik Green pearls (Reel Excitement's Twinkie Green), Chrome Blue Holo/Crush Glows with Atommik UV dolphins, White Nukes with Atommik purple mirages, Purple Crush Glow with purple mirages, Revelator Cows(white black dots)with Atommik Purple mirages and Revelator Twinkie greens. We received the info from Reel Excitement, Sunrise II and Reflection; thanks for your input.

Monday, June 27, 2011

Well my tournament season is over with some mild success but now its time to get serious about the coming summer season. The latest report I received was from Bob Steven of Sunrise II he fished from 250 to 400, north/south trolls riggers from 35 to 70, predominant lure colors were purple stingrays. His divers were from 150-180 with Chrome Ice blue/glow spin doctors with atommik UV dolphins.

Tuesday, June 21, 2011

I will be in Canada fishing the KOL tournament in Whitby till Sunday. When I get back I will update everyone on the fishing at the Oak

Saturday, June 18, 2011

Fishing was on the tougher side today, it might have been because of the full moon clear skies last night. We all did manage get a decent catch and it was better later in the day (like most full moon events). The screen was full of bait from 60-150 fow west from the pump house, east to the flats. Most had a mix of Laker's and kings with a few steelhead and browns mixed in. Fish came from 45-70 down silver green glow DW's were good later in the day and a mix greens earlier. The two best diver set ups I heard were Gold 42 Spin doctors with Gold 42 Atommik flies and Chrome/Blue/Crush Glow with Atommik UV Dolphins and Hammer Lives behind them set from 150 to 200 out.

Friday, June 17, 2011

Back from vacation with the wife, and we did do a little fishing along with some info I received from Capt. Tim of Whiskey Runner and Capt. Carl of Salmo charters. Fishing is good from 60-90 fow east to the flats and west to Johnson's creek catches are a mixed bag of laker's to Atlantic's most colors combinations of greens are working well. More to come after we fish today.

Wednesday, June 12, 2011

Sorry on Vacation with the wife, will update when I return.

Thursday, June 9, 2011

I received this email and would like to share my response with all.

"I read your latest post from June 8th with a bit of dismay...I realize that the Pro-Am is this weekend, but my take on this is that information provided to you specifically with the intent of being posted to the website is instead being kept "close to your chest". This certainly wouldn't encourage me to share anything with you. Maybe that wasn't what you meant by your post, but the appearance is not flattering. Wasn't the site set up to help the average weekend angler out? I just thought I'd let you know, in case you wanted to amend the post."

I would be happy to amend the post if some information was shared with me for this specific purpose but I have received none, so I have nothing to post. Everyone must be keeping it close to their chest and everything I know is from the hard work I have been doing the last two days myself.

Wednesday, June 8, 2011

Just so everyone knows I have not forgotten to post info on the site. I am fishing the Pro/Ams and even though it is an open communication event, I like to keep what I know right now close to the vest. I will give everyone an update on Sunday.

Monday May 30, 2011

The lake was foggy and the information was also foggy. With the approaching pro/am's information becomes scarce. I will do my best to keep everyone up to date on what is happening, but I expect very little info over the next few weeks due to the up coming events.

Saturday, May 28, 2011

Capt. Mick from Hooked Up Charters had a good day on a mixed bag of fish. Kings, Lakers and Steelhead, the best water was from 80 to 180 right out in front to a little west. His best lures were spooks in both black and silver/black and gold.

Wednesday, May 25, 2011

Capt. PJ from Just 11, Charters says there is still some good brown trout fishing from the harbor to Johnson's Creek. He fished these inside waters with some great success today, taking multiple over 10lb browns.

Tuesday, May 24, 2011

An interesting report; just goes to show you being in a big boat is not a must with our Great Lake Ontario fishery, everyone can enjoy it.

"A couple of friends and I were fishing just outside the mouth of Eagle Creek marina east of the oak, Sunday May 22nd, we were fishing in a small zodiac and a three person canoe. We were using silver spoons, blue and silver cleos, and blue jerk baits. We all had medium action rods and small abu garcia bait casters with 17 pound test line. We were fishing between 12pm-2pm and were catching big brown trout. We were 40-120 yards off shore in about 6-10 feet of water. When I left we had caught 8 browns. We caught two five pounders, two 6 pounders, two 7 pounders, an 8 pounder and a 12 pounder. We had a person leave the marina at about 8 in the morning and not catch a thing, a boat with down riggers and everything got out fished by a bunch of kids in 10 feet of water in only 2 hours".

For those who have big boats; Get Hooked with Captain Jack and Captain Mick had another good day out in the same waters as yesterday with the same bait setups; so don't sell your boat yet and buy that canoe.

Monday, May 23, 2011

This is a weekend rap up including Mondays fishing. I received 2 reports and both were very similar. Best was still out front from 80-200 Mixed bags of fish including Kings, Steelhead, Lakers and Coho. Twinkie Green off the divers out 140 to 200 along with a NBK Spindoctor with the Atomic Pro/Am live did well on nice kings. Other baits mentioned were Melons, M&M's Purple Thunders and multiple orange spoons. We would like to thank Wharf Rat and Get Hooked charters for the info.

Just to remind everyone this time of the year I am fishing out west so I must rely on info I receive from the Captains still at the Oak. As I receive it I will try to post it in a timely manner.

Saturday, May 21, 2011

The only report I have gotten as of late was from Mark Lomis of J-Team. He had a great day on Friday out in front from 30-80. A good mix of Kings, Steelhead and Lakers 30-50 down on the riggers no specific baits mentioned.

Thursday, May 19, 2011

The lake was calm and the sun shined today, it was a miracle. No word on how the fishing was though hopefully some good news soon.

Wendsday, May 18, 2011

Not allot to tell, it has been blowing NE for 4 days. The last good report I received was from Butch Cooly of Pisces charters. He had a couple of good days on the beach for browns on Saturday and Sunday. Looks like tomorrow will be a little better weather wise lest hope for some good new on the fishing front.

Sunday, May 15, 2011

Sorry for the lack of reports the last few days but I have not been by a computer. I was fishing the WHI and was otherwise occupied. What I did hear was that there was a good mixed bag of fish off off Shadigee in 150 to 180 which included some nice kings. But I will assume that the north east winds that blew all day today will make that a thing of the past. Here is hoping for some more stable weather to get things setup again.

Tuesday, May 10, 2011

Since most of the resident Captains have headed off to Wilson for this weekends tournament, the info is scarce. But from what I heard, the inshore fishing still presents opportunities for a successful fishing trip and the best has been from the little flats to devils nose.

Monday, May 9, 2011

We will be releasing our fish from the pens Wednesday at 1:00PM at Lake Breeze Marine. If you would like to help please come and join the fun.

Saturday, May 7, 2011

Like a switch the inshore fishing has turned off. The best action today was out 100-120 for rainbows and coho's. I did not get any info on lure types, will pass that on as soon as I know.

Thursday, May 5, 2011

From the reports I have gotten the inshore bite for browns and cohos remains consistent and that occasional king keeps showing up in many catches. With the rain we have had and the color running out of the rivers and streams I would expect it to remain the same for the near future.

Saturday, April 30, 2011

The word today was if you want it we got it. Multiple boats with multiple kings( Some Matures), browns and cohos, along with Atlantic's and some laker's thrown in. The best from the info I received was east to the glass house in 10-20 fow. Most of the same baits mentioned over the last few reports... with the weather forecast for Sunday sounds like another good day on the rise.

Friday, April 29, 2011

A report from Laura and Ken on Rusty Lure... Fishing was good today out of the oak, we had a good mix of fish including a few kings; Biggest was a 16lb. which hit a purple YoZuri. Billy was also good all day; trolled west to Johnson in 11 to 20 ft.

Wednesday, April 27, 2011

A report from Tim LaVan Oil City, PA

Thanks so much for the help on Sunday when I called you…..we fished from the pump house west to a couple miles past Johnson’s Creek. Good color there both days…..we past you yesterday, we were going east and you west on the edge of the mud. We had GREAT days both days. I had my 10 year old nephew with us and it was a BLAST watching him catch fish! We got a couple real nice browns and then a great mix of browns and cohos. We had one laker Monday and a king Tuesday. We did great on reds and yellows……. GFR Rapalas and red or yellow spoons were great…..5’ down, 50’ back on the riggers and 100-120 back on flat lines and boards. We only ran one board each day and even pulled it when we ran back east. We were done at 10 am Monday and 9 am yesterday, then went to C & R just for fun….. Just awesome fishing. Didn’t expect it yesterday with the NE wind, fog and rain.

The fishing remained the same today with some big Lakers also showing up in 50-55 FOW

Sunday, April 24, 2011

Happy Easter

We received a report from Wharf Rat who fished west in front of Johnson's. They had a great day with the same mix of browns and coho's that have been there all along. They also had another nice King. The kings seem to be showing up consistently in many catches. His hot baits were Thunder Stick Jr's in red with a black ladder back and perch patterns, along with the small Cindy.

All of the kings have been coming off of riggers the last few days and gold DW SS's have been the ticket, theirs bit a Craig's Steelhead

Saturday, April 23, 2011

The charters we heard from today were Reel Excitement, U_Betcha, and Rally Killer. They all had great days west of the port from the wall to Green Harbor. The hot lures today were pretty much the same as yesterdays, Billy's, red thunder stick Jr's with black ladders backs, #9 JFR's and #9 fire tigers off the boards, with DW gold supper slims firing on the riggers 5 down 50 back.. Browns, cohos and a few Kings were mixed in with their catches

The water color and temperature remains good, as long as that holds up the inshore fishing should remain excellent.

Friday, April 22, 2011

The charters we heard from today were Sunrise II and U_Betcha. They both had great days west of the port from the park to Johnson's. The hot lures were Billy's, red thunder stick Jr's with black ladders backs and #9 JFR's mostly browns but some nice Atlantic's were mixed in with their catches

I have received some feedback about the frequency of the reports to date. I will be happy to post more reports if the weather would let us get out on the lake more often so I have info to post. Its looking like it will get better over the next few days

Thursday, April 21, 2011

We received our pen fish and all went well. Anyone who would like to help with the feeding please call Jane at Lake Breeze Marina at 585-682-3995 and she will place you on the schedule.

Well if the weather lets us get out we should have a good weekend of fishing since we have plenty of color along the shore line.

Saturday , April 17, 2011

There has been some rumblings on Facebook about whats happening at the Oak(among other things). We fished on Thursday and had a nice day, browns were the ticket that day. But I have been receiving reports of good mixed bags of fish being caught mostly to the west of port(Johnson's to Green Harbor)in the usual 7-10 foot of water;the smaller boats are able to get in closer and are doing very well. There has been a number Kings and Atlantic's caught along with the usual browns. All we need now is the weather to let us fish, I had to cancel both of my trips this weekend and am hoping for more favorable weather this coming week.

Just another reminder that we will be getting our pen stocking on Wednesday at about 12 noon at lake Breeze Marina, hope to see you all there.

Saturday , April 13, 2011

We will be receiving our fish to be held in the pens on April 20, around 12 noon. We will need all the help we can get to put the fish in the pens and move them to docks where the will be kept.

Saturday , April 9, 2011

This is a short report, the lake has been calm the last few days so the color has cleared and today the good fishing that we had the last few days has slowed. We need a hard rain or a few days of wind to get the color back and the fishing back in gear.

Friday, April 8, 2011

It is my sad duty to inform all of the "At the Oak" readers that Shirely has passed quietly to meet Joe on their new Searay Amberjack. I am sure he has been waiting for her to drive the boat over those big salmon they will be catching for all of eternity. You will both always be in our heart and minds. I will do my best to continue to provide you with the most up to date fishing information at the oak in Joe and Shirley's honor..

The bite has been very good the last few days from the pump house all the way to Green Harbor. The info I have receive is 7-8 fow; black and gold raps, rebels and thunder stick Jr's off the boards, along with the same color patterns on small spoons like 44's on the riggers. A lot of big browns are being caught and they are filled with gobbies. Also some good atlantics, and a few king have made it to the net.

Monday, April 4, 2011

From Wayne Dreher who fishes out of Sandy Creek. I went out Saturday morning on a shakedown did Browns and one Atlantic. Usual suspects, green and orange was the best, both on riggers and boards, spoons and stickbaits. Had lots of good water in front of the pump station in Hamlin but it was really cold (37 was the best).

Saturday, April 2, 2011

As I sit here and write this report, my mind wonders in many directions. I wish to honor a woman that has worked tirelessly to support a resource we all enjoy (Lake Ontario) to its fullest extent. It was never quite sure to me if Shirley loved to fish, or if she loved to fish because that is where Joe’s desires were and she wanted to be with him. But she gave it her all and was very successful at it. I would like to thank Shirley for the tireless hours she has put in supporting trout and salmon fishing on Lake Ontario with the diligent work she has done on the web site that kept us all informed and became famous. But it is my sad duty to inform everyone that she will soon leave us to join Joe on their new boat, where the Salmon are all big and the bite is always good. Many friends will dearly miss her.

She has asked me to keep the report going and I will to the best of my ability, but it will never have the flare that she and Joe provided.

If anyone wishes to send her final wishes Mark Lewis has graciously offered to receive them and pass them on to Shirley in her last days. Please send any communications to Shirley to “Devonianmark@gmail.com put Shirley in the subject line and he will see that she receives it the same day.

So for the report, clear water tough bite let’s hope for some rain or wind to give us some color and the Browns will turn on.

Sunday, March 26, 2011

This first report is not one filled with happy news: First, with great regret I have to mention the loss of two individuals since we last posted, who were an integral part of the fishing community in Oak Orchard. Duane Jones, of Heaven Bound who was a passionate supporter of the Pen Rearing program over the years, along with a very successful recreational fisherman and contributor to our reports, was lost suddenly near the end of last season. Also Fran Perry, of Red Breeze Camp Grounds on Lake Alice, who has fished with many of the captains as a first mate and a team member on a number of successful tournament teams, was lost suddenly this winter. Both men had contributed highly to the success of the Oak Orchard fishing community and Lake Ontario. They will both be dearly missed and we send our sympathy to both of their families.

It is also my sad to duty to inform everyone that Shirley is gravely ill and I am asking that you keep her in your prayers. So for now I will try to keep you updated with the happenings At the Oak. The future of the site will be decided in accordance with Shirley's wishes.

As far as the positives we will be putting together our pens for this seasons project next Saturday, April 2nd at 8:00 AM at Lake Breeze Marina. Please don't forget to bring your side cutters. Also the first report I received was from Jeff Deyoung, on his first trip of the season he went 4-7 all browns off of Johnson's Creek, thunder stick juniors and pirate 44's no colors mentioned.

A Lake Ontario Pioneer Has Passed Away: Capt. Marv Cappon a pioneer of Lake Ontario trout and Salmon fishing passed away at the age of 81. As Marv had been away from the industry for many years, most of you on this forum probably do not know him, but there are still some of the old guard that I am sure remembers him as he was an unforgettable figure. Standing 6'8" and 300 lbs he was a giant of a person with an even greater personality. He was one of the old guard finger lake charter captains who plied the waters of Seneca Lake for Lake Trout and other Salmonoids with the customary Seth Green Rigs and copper line tactics. He originally piloted Penn Yann's monikered MATSU 1-4 and later had the Well Craft Cap & Lambie. When the Salmon fishing exploded on the Great Lake's scene he was among the first, along with a hard core crew of finger lake captains that moved their game to Lake O. When he first started docking at 4 C's Marina (then Norm's) at the Oak, it was primarily a sail boaters marina. His trademark of blasting John Philip Sousa marches on the way out of the harbor on early morning charters did not endear him to the sailboat crowd. Blow off days would find him holding court in a corner of the 4-C's coffee shop with jokes and grand stories. Rest In Peace Capt. Marv.
